Molecular biology essay sample of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
Cancer has been a deadly disease for humankind. Squamous cell carcinoma ( abbreviated as HNSCC) has been a leading cause of morbidity and death globally. Annually more than five lakh cases of HNSCC are being registered globally, and more than two lakh people could not survive this deadly disease. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), as the name suggests, originates from the squamous cells. These squamous cells are found in the oral mucosa, oropharynx ( middle portion of the pharynx), nasal cavity & paranasal sinuses (air-filled spaces surrounding nasal cavity), nasopharynx( upper part of the pharynx), larynx, and hypopharynx ( bottom part of the pharynx). Although HNSCC is a heterogeneous, complex molecular abnormality disorder, it is still a preventable disease. (Romanowska, A., Rawłuszko-Wieczorek, Suchorska, & Golusinski, 2021) (Perez-Ordoñez, 2006)
